Shutdown: Marco Rubio Cancels 83% of USAID Programs

Eighty-three percent of the programs directly funded and administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) were canceled Monday by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Rubio took to social media to announce the latest step in the Trump administration’s efforts to cleanse the deep state from government institutions.
The decision came after a six week review of the programs, Rubio set out, citing their funding as antithetical to the core interests of the United States:
After a 6 week review we are officially cancelling 83% of the programs at USAID.
The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States.
In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 18% of programs we are keeping (approximately 1000) to now be administered more effectively under the State Department.
Thank you to DOGE and our hardworking staff who worked very long hours to achieve this overdue and historic reform.
The Trump administration last month placed USAID direct-hire staffers around the world on leave except those deemed essential while others were fired or placed on “administrative leave,” as Breitbart News reported.
Employees were also notified that USAID “was beginning a reduction in force that would eliminate 2,000 U.S.-based jobs,” however this was later changed in another notice to 1,600 employees reportedly having their jobs affected.
Now the results of that review have been delivered.

Those that kept the contracts under heavy supervision might wish they were cancelled?

If there is approximately 1000 programs left that is a 1000 too many.
$37,000,000,000,000 in debt, and climbing.

If they find 83% waste in the rest of government that will be both fantastic and infuriating at the same time

In other words, USAID will eventually be disbanded completely. That is very good news.

This is a good start, but now the GOP-controlled Congress needs to completely eliminate USAID from the Congressional budget and pass legislation allowing Trump to abolish it altogether.

If the rats are so concerned that we are not feeding the worlds children, call a conference in the house and call out each program that is being cancelled and those that are being saved and those in review and televise it

I'm your average American. The average American has no conception of the unbelievable quantity of cash the pimps and whores in govt throw away. We also did not realize they do that so they, and others, can siphon off their millions unnoticed.
How else can some grifter get elected to office, zero net worth, making only $300K/yr, and amass a net worth of ~$10 million?
We need access to their tax returns. Until then, it will always be a two tiered govt legal system.

I suspect only 18% of the funding for each of the remaining 18% of programs is accomplishing what it’s intended to accomplish.

6 weeks and eliminate 83%.
These folks are sticking around for 52 weeks at least right?
An 83% reduction average every six weeks and Congress and the entire DC Fedzilla may start to be an undesirable place to try to make a career out of it.
No way to pad your wealth portfolio if they eliminate those streams

If Congress passes a CR, the totality of money in the current regime will continue under the CR. Presumably that means the aggregate amount from the canceled projects will still be available for other current State projects - effectively an increase, unless Marco expressly announces the money will NOT be spent.
