This 1988 Austin Mini is a right-hand-drive City model that was modified before it was imported to the US in 2014. The project is said to have included repainting the exterior in white with a black roof and bonnet stripes, fitting a body kit and black 13” Supalight wheels, refinishing the interior with black and white vinyl upholstery and a matching dashboard, and rebuilding the inline-four to 1,030cc. Further modifications include an SU carburetor, electronic ignition, LED lighting, bullet-style door mirrors, billet aluminum interior trim, a Springalex steering wheel, and a Sony Bluetooth head unit. The car was acquired by the seller on BaT in June 2023, and subsequent work involved servicing its suspension and replacing the fuel pump. This Mk V Mini is offered in California with a Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.
The car left the factory finished in Sandalwood (SMC) and was refinished under previous ownership in white with a black roof and bonnet stripes. Modifications include a wide body kit, LED lighting, mesh headlight guards, Wipac driving lights, clear taillights, bullet-style door mirrors, and dual center-exit exhaust tips. Corrosion is reported between the rear window and boot lid. There is a crack along the right side of the front air dam, and the seller notes that it has been reinforced from the underside to prevent further cracking.
Supalight 13” wheels feature black centers and are mounted with 165/55 Nankang Toursport 611 tires. A Hi/Lo adjustable coil-spring suspension is fitted, and replacement front suspension bushings were installed under current ownership. The front disc brakes have slotted rotors and braided stainless-steel hoses.
The right-hand drive cabin features front seats and a rear bench trimmed in black and white vinyl with a matching dashboard panel and center console. Amenities include a billet aluminum shift knob, parking brake handle, and trim, LED lighting, purple floor mats, FLI speakers, and a Bluetooth-capable Sony CD head unit that sometimes blows a fuse. Sound-deadening insulation is noted, as well.
A Springalex steering wheel frames replacement Smiths gauges including a 130-MPH speedometer and a tachometer, with supplemental gauges centrally mounted in the dashboard, and the seller added an air/fuel-ratio gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 4,600 miles, ~100 of which were added by the seller, who also installed a battery disconnect in the cabin, as the car has a voltage draw that can drain the battery. A June 2019 entry on the Carfax report states an Exceeds Mechanical Limits title was issued for the vehicle, and total mileage is unknown.
The A-series inline-four is said to have been built to 1,030cc in 2013. It features a polished SU-HS4 carburetor, an LCB inlet manifold, electronic ignition, an aluminum 4-core radiator, adjustable engine stabilizers, a replacement front wiring harness, a Nisco horn, and a Wood & Pickett rocker cover. A replacement mechanical fuel pump was installed under current ownership.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The exhaust system includes an LCB stainless steel mid-pipe and a Fletcher stainless steel muffler.
