This black-over-black 1969 Land Rover 88 is a left-hand-drive Series IIA, and the seller tells us its 2.25-liter gasoline inline-four was refurbished before the vehicle was imported to the US from South America two years ago. They add that it was also repainted at that time, and its interior was refreshed with replacement three-across front seats and inward-facing rear jump seats prior to their acquisition, as well. This 88 Series IIA is now offered with an uninstalled hardtop, upper door inserts with sliding side windows, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Exterior details include LED headlights, fender-mounted mirrors, and a cargo door with a jerry-can mount. Some chipped paint and other flaws are noted around the body.
The 15″ steel wheels are mounted with 255/70 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 tires. Unassisted steering and brakes are additional elements.
The three-across front seats are trimmed in black leatherette, and dark covers line the floors. The cargo area has four inward-facing jump seats, which are also fitted with lap belts.
A three-spoke steering wheel fronts the dashboard, which has a centrally mounted 130-km/h speedometer with a five-digit odometer showing 51k kilometers (~31k miles), however it is not accurate per the seller, who reports driving ~700 kilometers under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.
The 2.25-liter inline-four sends power to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The seller reports that fluids and the radiator were replaced in preparation for the sale.
Additional photographs of the underside are shown in the gallery below.
An uninstalled hardtop with a vented roof accompanies the vehicle along with a spare cargo door, upper door inserts with sliding side windows, and associated hardware and seals.
The vehicle was registered in California after the seller obtained a letter from the California Air Resources Board that is shown above.
The VIN on the California title corresponds with the firewall plate in the glovebox. The seller reports the VIN on the frame has been painted over and is no longer fully legible.
