SEN. RON JOHNSON (R-WI) predicts he has enough Senate allies to hold up the "big, beautiful bill"

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), a fiscal hawk who has openly criticized House Republicans' reconciliation bill, predicted Sunday that there are enough in his flock to stop the process "until the president gets serious about spending reduction and reducing the deficit."

The big picture:

Pushing President Trump's "big, beautiful bill" through the House was far from a painless process, but the fiscal package now heads to the Senate, where the chamber is likely to make changes.

Johnson, who has not held back in his criticism of the bill championed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), characterized the GOP-only legislation as "the Titanic" at a Politico event earlier this month.

Ron Johnson wants deeper cuts, and has repeatedly called for a return to pre-pandemic spending levels.

Driving the news:

"This is the weekend we honor the service and sacrifice of the finest among us," Ron Johnson said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday, referencing the Memorial Day holiday. He added: "I don't think they served in sacrifice to leave our children completely mortgaged."

He called for his fellow lawmakers to be "responsible," contending the "first goal of our budget reconciliation process should be to reduce the deficit."

As he noted, the legislation — which aims to extend Trump's first-term tax cuts, among other priorities — would do the opposite.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates an increase in the deficit of $3.8 trillion for the 2026–2034 period.

GOPe = DNC = communist. Not a lidk of difference. Sure, they all wear different hats and spew a different set of lies to their contituencies, but the bottom line is: they’re all the same...spit.

Thanks Ron.

I'm assuming you owe something to a lobbyist - or - you want DJT to stuff your pockets with taxpayer money.

Simply put, I don't trust you as far as I can throw you.

Well, Ron, it’s simple economics. The country has been spending beyond its means for so long that even a modest course correction (reducing government spending in the next fiscal year to trim the annual deficit) will likely result in a recession that will end the GOP-controlled Congress. There you have it.

I want DOGE cuts codified and split between reduction the debt, elimination of the deficit and tax cuts to the less than outrageously wealthy.

That’s what regular order is for.

Ruthless committee work.

I would prefer the “fat” be eliminated from the bbb. I would also prefer America’s financial house to be the same as in my house. My budget must be balanced in my house. I expect and support America’s financial house be balanced also.

Regular order? We have a four decades of the build-up of traitors to work through before we can establish any order at all except the uniparty free-for-ll grift going on in the house of horrors calling itself the Capitol.

How will it result in a recession ? Spending went down 20% 2 years after the pandemic and we didn’t have a recession. Trump needs to publicly defend the reversal of DOGE cuts if he is so passionate about deficit spending.

Let the knee jerking begin.

When in fact if one seriously looks at the flaws of the BBB, maybe the questioning makes sense.

1. SALT
2. 5 Trillion Dollar Debt Increase.
3. No Social Security tax elimination.
4. Still has Medicaid for illegals
5. Etc

Tax remittances to other countries by 20%. No tax on the sale of a primary residence, Fire 25% of federal work force, hiring freeze, .......Reconcile that. Well one can dream.
