KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that Nepal’s current Constitution has ended the discrimination and oppression caused by a centralized and unitary state system, and has united the country’s diverse ethnic, linguistic, religious, cultural, and geographical communities through the principle of broad national unity.
In his message on the occasion of Constitution Day, President Paudel extended best wishes to all Nepalis, expressing hope that the Day would inspire collective efforts toward sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity under the federal democratic republican system.
He said the Constitution envisions an egalitarian society based on social justice and aims to establish a socialist-oriented economy. Emphasizing the need for equal access to state services and constitutionally guaranteed rights, he highlighted the importance of ensuring social security for all citizens.
Calling on all Nepalis to commit themselves—through thought, speech, and action—to implementing the spirit and essence of the Constitution, the President urged continued honest and effective efforts to bring constitutional ideals into everyday practice.
President Paudel also emphasized Nepal’s immense potential, saying the country’s rich cultural heritage and natural resources offer vast opportunities for employment and income generation.
He expressed confidence that, through good governance and proper management of water resources and energy, Nepal could position itself among the developed nations—provided current challenges are addressed.
He noted that the Constitution guarantees equal protection for the multi-ethnic, multilingual, and multicultural identity of Nepal’s diverse geography—spanning the Himalayas, hills, and Terai—and stressed that no action should be taken that undermines mutual harmony, brotherhood, and coexistence among Nepalis.
Constitution Day (National Day) is being observed today in commemoration of the promulgation of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal in 2015.
On this occasion, the President offered his heartfelt tribute to the known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of a federal democratic republic.
He also expressed his deep respect for political leaders who led the republican movements at various times and praised the dedication of ordinary citizens and political activists who contributed to the democratic struggle.
