4BT-Powered 1983 Ford Bronco XLT 4×4

This 1983 Ford Bronco XLT has been with members of one family since the early 1990s and is powered by a 3.9-liter Cummins 4BT turbodiesel inline-four linked to a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. A mechanical refurbishment was performed after ownership was transferred to the seller in 2023, and that work is said to have included rebuilding the front driveshaft, re-gearing the differentials, and replacing braking, suspension, and exhaust components along with the turbocharger, intercooler, exhaust manifold, fuel injectors, and radiator. The truck is finished in dark blue and white over blue upholstery, and additional equipment includes 15″ Alcoa wheels, a receiver hitch, a Kenwood stereo, and Infinity speakers. This Bronco is offered with the owner’s manual, an accident-free Carfax report, and a California title in the seller’s name.

The truck was repainted dark blue and white in 2012 and is equipped with a receiver hitch, LED headlights, and a power-operated tailgate window. The Bronco badges are mismatched. Close-up images of rust and blemishes are provided in the gallery.

The 15″ Alcoa wheels were installed and mounted with Toyo tires under current ownership. Additional recent service is said to have included resurfacing the rear drums and replacing the power steering pump, front brake rotors, front calipers, rear wheel cylinders, master brake cylinder, brake booster, brake hoses, parking brake cables, and tires.

The three-across aftermarket front seating and the rear bench are trimmed in blue upholstery. Appointments include remote start, an alarm system, power door locks, and LED interior lighting. The sound system consists of a Kenwood head unit, MTX amplifiers, a Kicker subwoofer, and Infinity speakers. The air conditioning system does not work and blemishes are visible on the door panels. Sound dampening material has been added to the rear portion of the roof, the rear window switch and right door armrest were replaced in 2023, and the carpeting was replaced in 2024.

The steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a column-mounted AutoMeter tachometer, and supplementary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery voltage, and fuel level. Aftermarket auxiliary gauges are mounted to the A-pillar. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. The Carfax report includes a potential odometer rollover in April 2000.

The three-speed automatic transmission was overhauled and the torque converter was replaced shortly after the engine was installed. Work under current ownership is said to have include replacing the transmission modulator and cooler as well as installing dual cooling fans. The seller notes the front driveshaft has been rebuilt and the front and rear differentials have been re-geared to a 3.07:1 ratio.

The Carfax report lists the aforementioned potential odometer rollover notation.

The truck has not been inspected by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair or Air Resources Board following the engine swap and the title change from gasoline to diesel, and it cannot be sold to an in-state private-party buyer.
