9 States That May Send Stimulus Checks In 2023

(TheDailyCurrents.com) – The devastating impact of the state of our current economy is being felt around the country. As a result, some states elected to provide stimulus packages to cushion residents from the high inflation rates that began in 2022.

While most of these stimulus programs ended last year, some states continue to offer their residents stimulus checks. Below is a list of nine states that may send stimulus packages to their residents in 2023, including the qualifications for each and approximate amount being given.

Maine

Full-time Maine residents who filed for a personal income tax return by October 31, 2022, may qualify for Maine’s Winter Energy Relief Payment. The income qualification for single filers is less than $100,000 income, $150,000 for the head of household filers, and $200,000 for married filers who file joint returns. Payments range from $450 for single filers to $900 for married couples, and disbursements are set to begin in January and end in September 2023.

Illinois

Illinois offers tax and property rebates to applicants who were registered as Illinois residents in 2021. The income qualification for this stimulus is less than $200,000 for single filers and $400,000 for joint filers. Filers must also have filed state property taxes.

As for the amount of the income tax rebate received, it depends on the filing status. Single filers are eligible for $50, and married couples $100 for each dependent up to three dependents. On the other hand, property rebates are equal to the 2021 property tax credit claimed but cannot exceed $300.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts offers stimulus packages for residents who filed their 2021 personal income tax return. The amount awarded equals 14.0312% of a filer’s income tax liability and is subject to change based on debt, unpaid child support, or unpaid taxes. Payments for residents who filed tax returns before October 17, 2021, started on November 1 and ended on December 15. Applicants who filed after October 17 but before September 15, 2023, should expect their stimulus checks within a month of filing.

Delaware

Delaware residents who filed their 2020 or 2021 Delaware personal income tax returns can qualify for the Delaware Relief Rebate. This program awards a one-time $300 to eligible applicants, with the first payments going out in May 2022 and ending in early fall. For taxpayers who applied before the reset December 15, 2022 deadline, payments will be made sometime in 2023 after all applications have been reviewed.

New Mexico

New Mexico taxpayers earning less than $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers who file their 2021 personal income tax returns by May 23, 2023, can qualify for two tax rebates. In the first tax rebate, joint filers and heads of households are eligible for $500, while single filers can get $250. The second tax rebate awards joint filers and head-of-households $1,000 and $500 to single filers, respectively.

The first and second disbursements were already made in 2022, but additional payments are scheduled once the 2021 New Mexico tax returns are filed by May 23, 2023, and processed.

South Carolina

Taxpayers who filed their 2021 South Carolina income tax returns by February 15, 2022, and have a tax liability can qualify for the state tax rebate. The amount awarded varies depending on income tax liability and credit deductions, but the maximum refund is $800. All tax returns done by February 15 should be paid by March 31, 2022, through direct deposit or paper check.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is offering Property and Rent Rebates to residents aged 65 and above, widows (ers) aged 50, and people with disabilities aged 18 and above. For applicants who rent, the annual income cap is $15,000, while homeowners have an income limit of $35,000 (exclusive of Social Security benefits). The average rebate awarded is $650, but some applicants can qualify for rebates up to $975. Disbursement of rebate checks started in August 2022 and is set to continue in 2023 for those who filed late last year.

New Jersey

Homeowners and renters in New Jersey can qualify for the state’s $2 billion property tax rebate program. Under the program, homeowners earning less than $150,000 can be eligible for $1,500 worth of property tax rebates, and those earning from $150,000 up to $250,000 are eligible for tax rebates worth $1,000. On the other hand, renters making less than $150,000 are eligible for a $450 refund. All payments are set to arrive by May 2023 latest.

Idaho

Idaho is offering two tax rebates for full-year residents who filed their 2020 and 2021 income tax returns by the end of 2022. For applicants who weren’t required to file a tax return for the two years but did a grocery credit refund, they too can qualify for the rebate. The amount awarded is the greater of 10% of a taxpayer’s 2020 tax liability, but single filers can get a maximum of $300 and $600 for married couples filing joint returns. Disbursements will be done sometime in 2023 when processing is complete.
