Trump warns Zelenskyy to quickly negotiate war's end with Russia or risk not having a nation to lead

MIAMI (AP) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he “better move fast” to negotiate an end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine or risks not having a nation to lead.

The rhetoric from Trump toward Ukraine comes amid an escalating back-and-forth between the two presidents and rising tensions between Washington and much of Europe over Trump's approach to settling the biggest conflict on the continent since World War II.

Trump's harsh words for Zelenskyy drew criticism from Democrats and even some Republicans in the United States, where Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression has had bipartisan support. Zelenskyy said Trump was falling into a Russian disinformation trap — and was quickly admonished by Vice President JD Vance about the perils of publicly criticizing the new president.

Trump, who is trying to bring the fighting to a close on terms that Kyiv says are too favorable to Moscow, used an extended social media post on his Truth Social platform to lash out at Zelenskyy and call the Ukrainian a “dictator without elections."

It could not be more clear what POTUS wants.

He wants Zelensky out.

And, he wants Ukrainian capitulation.

Absent another benefactor, he's likely to get both.

Zeepers saddened.
The great glorious war isn’t going to happen.

Capitulation. I don’t think so. He’s got Putin by the balls. He won’t let Putin’s get away with his instincts like W did.

On a very tiny level, I saw this problem coming. I support Ukraine vs Russia but on that pro Ukraine site they were all horribly anti Trump and pro Biden.
When I tried to calmly suggest they work with Trump, I was quickly banned from posting.
They even go on and on that they were already being attacked during the first Trump administration, so the massive invasion under Biden isn’t anything new and isn’t Biden’s fault.
Those delusions,or maybe their belief that they had to hold onto Biden because he was funding their defense, are not going to fly under Trump.
All Zelenszy had to do was play along with Trump. Thinking that he could kick and scream and run to Europe for help against the USA is imbecilic.
Trump was going to hurt whichever side said “no” to his efforts.
Hey if the Europeans can supply an entire defense against Russia without us, God Bless them, but they can’t.

He wants Zelensky out.

He's applying a lot of pressure - when (not if) Zelensky gives in, Trump may be fine with him. I see it as Trump negotiating.

To: Mariner

So that’s that. Russia will not negotiate with the dwarf, as he is not the elected leader. Ukraine goes back to old boarders, there are several. But it is no longer a independent nation. The issue is then completely over. Thank God. We can stop wasting resources on a lost cause. Hey we can focus on repairing our own mess.

I also see it as Trump’s negotiation plan.

I noticed over the last few years that many of the most rabid Ukraine supporters were also some of the same people cheering on the riots in 2020.

"How much does trump get from putin?"

President Trump campaigned on a promise to end the Ukraine War quickly. What did you think would happen?

“How much does trump get from putin?”

That’s a direct accusation of Trump as a traitor.

Unfortunately a lot to do with Ukraine got wound around democrat politics and the Russia collusion hoax. It’s almost too convoluted to unwind.
Democrats are the ones who said Bush was ruining relations with Russia, and Hillary was going to be “smarter” with her “reset” button.
Biden was soft on Putin and let the invasion happen, just like Obama had.

But then the Republicans played warhawk, and the dems in Congress reminded Biden that being anti Trump was supposed to be anti Russian.

Somewhere in all this, a lot of Ukrainians started believing their salvation was in Biden, and that Trump was their enemy.

Trump isn’t going to put up with this crap from Europe or from Ukraine, and imho it’s all a tragedy for the Ukrainian people.

This has been inevitable since 2017.

Trump’s impeachment was spearheaded by Alexander Vindman, who rabidly did everything he could to hurt Trump, because Trump wouldn’t blindly support Ukraine and get us directly into the war too. I don’t blame Trump for pulling the plug on this fiasco.
