‘The Owl House’ Creator Urges Fans To “Unsubscribe” From Disney+, “Pirate” Show In Protest Of AI User-Generated Content: “I Don’t Care”

As Disney+ flirts with a new feature that would allow subscribers to create their own AI-generated content within the app, one of the streamer’s real creators is drawing a line.

The Own House creator Dana Terrace urged fans of the animated series to “unsubscribe” from the streaming platform and “pirate” her show after Bob Iger revealed plans to create “a much more engaged experience” with the new development during Thursday’s quarterly earnings call.

“‘If you pay us we’ll let you make your own content slop! That we will own!'” Terrace summed up the feature as she shared the news on X. “YOU CAN DRAW AND WRITE AND POST YOUR OWN S*** FOR FREE. Bob Iger and his ilk are f***ing ghouls.”

Terrace added in another post, “PICK UP A PENCIL OR DIE.”

Putting her money where her mouth is, Terrace instructed her fans, “Unsubscribe from Disney+. Pirate Owl House. I don’t care. F*** gen AI.”

With GenAI enthusiasts coming out in support of the program and its accessibility for those outside the industry, Terrace rebutted, “A ‘regular person’ can already create movies. Regular people create movies and art everyday. Every director, show runner, artist, film maker I know is a regular person, with limited resources, picking up pens, pencils, and styluses to create movies and art. EVERY. DAMN. DAY.”

Iger previously announced on this week’s earnings call that the “game-like feature” could roll out on Disney+ soon, lining up with the company’s current mission to use AI to create “a much more engaged experience, including the ability for them to create user generated content and to consume user generated content.”

Created by Terrace, The Owl House ran for three seasons on the Disney Channel from 2020 to 2023, now available to stream on Disney+.
