Player Housing is now available in World of Warcraft with patch 11.2.7! The feature is in early access, and only available to players who have pre-ordered Midnight (the base edition costs $50 and is all you need, so it isn’t a massive investment). But housing is a big complicated system, and there’s a good chance you have some questions… or will come up with as you start experimenting with your house. We’ve done our best to collate the answers to most commonly asked questions below.
Q. When will housing be available?
A. Housing early access is part of WoW patch 11.2.7, and is only available for accounts that have a Midnight pre-order. (Housing is a Midnight-exclusive feature and will not be available to players who don’t purchase Midnight when it launches.) The patch went live on December 2 in NA, and will be available on December 3 for EU.
Even if you haven’t pre-ordered, once patch 11.2.7 launches you can start collecting decor from vendors, crafting, achievements, or boss drops — though you’ll only be able to use them once you purchase Midnight.
Q. How do I get a house?
A. When you log on after patch 11.2.7 launches, you’ll get a breadcrumb quest to go to the portal room in Stormwind or Orgrimmar, depending on your faction. After a short intro quest chain, you can claim a housing plot.
Q. How many houses can I have?
A. You can have two houses, one in Founder’s Point for Alliance and one in Razorwind Shores for Horde. Blizzard hasn’t committed to adding additional neighborhoods in the future, though it’s possible there may be other options in the long run.
Q. How do I get a second house?
A. You’ll only be asked to do the tutorial once, after that you can simply open the house finder on a faction-appropriate character to buy a house in the other neighborhood.
Q. Do I have to have a house?
A. Player Housing is completely optional, and does not provide any player power or rewards beyond housing customizations. Think of it like transmog: something you can enjoy collecting and customizing if you like, but not something you’re required to participate in to play the game. Housing is its own type of gameplay with its own progression track.

Q. How many housing plots are available to choose from?
A. Each neighborhood has 55 unique plots, each with different vibes so you can find a housing plot you love. Guild neighborhoods are a little different, and will expand into new subdivisions if your guild has more players than there are available plots. When a guild neighborhood is around 80% full, a second neighborhood will be created for players to choose homes in, connected to the original.
This subdivision will simply be a new instance of the original neighborhood — Founder’s Point for Alliance or Razorwind Shores for Horde — with additional plots to choose. All subdivisions of the same neighb0rhood will have the same available Neighborhood Endeavors (similar to the monthly Traveller’s Log activities), visit any unlocked vendors, and benefit from the Neighbourhood Favor renown unlocks.
Q. How do I know which housing plots are available in a neighborhood?
A. The easiest way to see plots is to open the House Finder in the housing dashboard: just open the dashboard (default hotkey h) and click the “Open House Finder” button. There, you can browse different neighborhoods and see all of the available housing plots in each. If you find one you like, click on it and then click “Visit” to teleport to the plot (which will be reserved for five minutes) so you can look around and decide if you like it. Once you’re inside a neighborhood, you can also just fly around looking for a place you like: available housing plots will have a glowing sign in front of them and be marked on the map with a yellow house icon (rather than the brown house icon that shows a person inside the house, or the blue house icon for houses occupied by friends).
If you’re in a guild neighborhood, check with your guild as to whether housing plots are being allocated in a certain way. While some guilds will be first come, first served, some may have signups or other ways to help everyone get the plot they want most. (Bear in mind that the only way for a guild leader to enforce plot restrictions is to kick players out of the guild, so it’s a very good idea to confirm before you buy a plot.)
Q. Where can I get information on what each plot will be like?
A. The best option will be to tour the neighborhood before selecting your plot, but there are multiple resources available to do virtual tours of the neighborhoods if you can’t get in game.
Founder’s Point (Alliance):
- This video is a good video tour of the Founder’s Point locations, with both the sub-zone and plot identifiers shown clearly on screen.
- If you don’t want to watch a video, this post has a brief description and a screenshot of each plot.
- If you want to get an idea of where the plots are located/distributed relative to the rest of the neighbourhood, this map may help.
Razorwind Shores (Horde):

Q. Which of my characters can access my house?
A. While the character who buys the house is considered the owner of the house, all characters on your Warband can access either of your homes and can visit, explore the neighborhood, and decorate.

Q. Where will my neighborhood be located?
A. Your neighborhood is tied to your faction: Alliance players can only buy houses in Founder’s Point and Horde players can only buy houses in Razorwind Shores.
Q. Can I move my house?
A. If you want to move your house within the neighborhood, just look for another unclaimed plot and claim it by clicking the cornerstone at the edge of the plot. If you want to switch neighborhoods, simply open the House Finder in the housing dashboard (default hotkey h) and browse through the available plots in different neighborhoods. Once you select one, you can teleport to the plot in the new neighborhood (it will be reserved for five minutes while you check it out) and you can click the cornerstone to claim the plot. Your house will appear in the new plot just as it was in the previous one (though some of your exterior decor may be misplaced or missing).
You will lose your previous plot when you claim a new one.
Q. What types of house are available?
A. The exterior of your home is customizable, but currently only Human-style houses (in Founder’s Point) and Orc-style houses (in Razorwind Shores) are available. We will also have Night Elf-style and Blood Elf-style for Midnight’s launch, but they will not be available in early access.
Q. Where do I get decor to decorate my house?
A. Almost everywhere. Vendors in your neighborhood will get you started, but after that you can find decor on vendors, as reputation rewards, through crafting (and on the auction house), as drops, and as achievement rewards.
Q. How do I put multiple copies of decor in my house?
A. You must own multiple copies of decor in order to put multiple versions of them in your home. So if you want a dining table with six chairs, you’ll need to buy one table and six chairs.
Q. How can I customize my decor?
A. You can dye decor to better color-coordinate your home. Dyes are consumable items that you can craft with the Alchemy or Inscription professions, or you can buy them from the Auction House. Again, they’re consumable, so you will need one of each color dye for each item you want to dye.

Q. Where will my guild neighborhood be located?
A. Even if your guild features cross-faction players, Guild Neighborhoods are specific to the guild’s faction. When your guild leader makes a neighborhood, it will be created based on their faction: Founder’s Point for Alliance or Razorwind Shores for Horde.
Q. Will I automatically be put in my guild neighborhood?
A. If your guild leader has created a neighborhood, you will initially be sent to the guild neighborhood when you do the introduction quests. However, if you want to live in a different neighborhood, you can use the House Finder in the housing dashboard (default hotkey h) to browse different neighborhoods.
Q. Why can’t I see my guild neighborhood in the House Finder?
A. If your guild leader has created a neighborhood and you can’t see it, be sure you’re trying to join it with a character that’s a member of the guild and of the same faction as the guild leader. Cross-faction players currently need to have a faction appropriate character (or alt) to buy a house in the neighborhood — though Blizzard has suggested this might change in the future. If you still can’t see the neighborhood in the House Finder after you’ve confirmed all of these things, contact support.
Q. Will having a character of the opposite faction to my prevent me from being part of a guild neighborhood?
A. All of your characters — Alliance or Horde — can visit and decorate your homes, as well as participate in neighborhood endeavors (when they’re available at Midnight launch), though you currently need to buy your house on a faction-appropriate character. While that character will be the “owner,” any characters on your Warband can use the house just just the same.
Q. What if I have characters in multiple guilds?
A. Characters in a guild can have a home in the guild neighborhood (with the restriction that you can only have one home per neighborhood) — you simply need to use a character in that guild to claim your housing plot. If you want to have a character in a different guild neighborhood, you simply join the neighborhood with a character in that guild. Any of your characters will be able to visit either house, decorate, and participate in neighborhood endeavors.
The only restriction is that if you are in two different Alliance guilds (or two different Horde guilds), you cannot have more than one house in each neighborhood.
Q. What if I want to change what guild neighborhood I’m in?
A. It’s easy to move a house, though switching guild neighborhoods may take a few extra steps. Currently, you need to move your home to a public neighborhood (simply select a new plot located in a public neighborhood via the House Finder), then change the home owner to be a member of the new guild, then select a plot in the new guild’s neighborhood. (If you’re moving to a private neighborhood, you can skip the intermediary step and move your home directly, because it isn’t tied to the current guild membership of the owner.) When you move, your house is simply packed up and appears in the new neighborhood, just as it was.

Q. Can I change the character who owns my house?
A. Yes. Just go to your current housing plot and click the House Settings option (a cogwheel at the top of the screen). The house’s current owner is listed in the top right with a dropdown to select a different character as the owner. If the house is in a guild neighborhood, the new character will also need to be in the guild.
Q. What happens if I delete the character that owns the house?
A. Your house will be packed up and you will need to buy a plot with a new character, who will be the owner.
Q. What happens if the character that owns the house in a guild neighborhood leaves the guild?
A. Your house will be packed up and you will need to find and purchase another plot with a different character. If you want to stay in the guild neighborhood, simply select a plot with a different character in the guild. If you want to be in a different neighborhood, simply open the House Finder and find a new plot. Whichever character buys this new plot will be your new home owner.
Q. How do I participate in Endeavors (neighborhood events)?
A. Endeavors are not available during early access, but when they are you’ll find quests and vendors in the downtown area of your neighborhood when an Endeavor is active. In public neighborhoods, the Endeavor is selected automatically, but in guild neighborhoods the guild leader has to select and activate the month’s Endeavor.
